We appreciated reading the article about the farming history of the Roszel family in Dutch Neck (The News, June 28, 2018).
When we moved to Dutch Neck, Malcolm Roszel was our neighbor. He was polite, friendly and rather civic-minded, with an air of distinction about him.
We eventually learned he had been one of the longest-serving mayors in the town.
One of the many topics he spoke to us about was the post office and general store that had been in the center of Dutch Neck.
On one occasion it was interesting to hear him tell about being a bomber pilot during World War II, when he flew a good number of bombing missions over Germany. He also showed us a tabletop model of the airplane in which he flew.
As a friend and neighbor, we will fondly remember Mr. Roszel and his wife.
