Thank you to all our readers who alerted us that a letter to the editor in the March 2018 issue of the Hamilton Post misidentified the park at the corner of Mercer Street and Nottingham Way in Hamilton Square.
The park, pictured above shortly after its dedication in 1977, is called Bernard Foley Park, named after the longtime chief of Nottingham Fire Company. Foley served as chief for 38 years.
Two years after the park’s dedication, the township moved into the park an existing stone monument honoring Hamiltonians who lost their lives in service during World War I and World War II.
The monument originally sat in the middle of Mercer Street, but—with the township population and the number of cars increasing—was relocated due to fears the monument would be struck by a motorist.
