This year marks Trenton Thunder’s 25th season playing ball in New Jersey’s capital, and the Yankees Double-A affiliate is celebrating by paying homage to a Trenton staple—pork roll.
Beginning on May 18, the Thunder will take the field under the name Trenton Pork Roll. Players will wear special uniforms, complete with hats featuring a pork roll mascot, during every Friday game throughout the season.
“Pork Roll is a New Jersey staple that can be served on everything from breakfast sandwiches to burgers and we’re thrilled to celebrate it on a daily basis at Arm & Hammer Park,” Thunder GM Jeff Hurley said. “Rebranding ourselves as the Trenton Pork Rolls on Friday nights is the perfect way to celebrate a Garden State favorite.”
To kickoff the Trenton Pork Roll season on May 18, the team will be giving away a pork roll apron to the first 1,025 fans ages 21 and older. As Trenton hosts the Bowie Baysox, the Baltimore Orioles Double-A affiliate, fans in attendance can celebrate the Trenton Pork Rolls with $1 Case’s Pork Roll sandwiches. Pork Roll themed merchandise will also available at the ballpark and online.
Minor league baseball teams are known for having unique or obscure names. From the El Paso Chihuahuas to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, it seems the Trenton Pork Rolls are in good company.
The Thunder begin their 2018 season on Thursday, April 5 when they host the Richmond Flying Squirrels. For more information the franchise’s 25th season, including other upcoming giveaways and promotions, visit trentonthunder.com or call 609-394-3300.
