In October 2009, Samuel M. Gaylord and Lawrence E. Popp hung up their shingle on Bear Tavern Road to form Gaylord Popp, LLC. Their tagline is “Attorneys at Law for the People.” Both are active members of the Ewing community.
Gaylord specializes in disability litigation, including workers compensation, Social Security Disability, Medicare Set Aside claims, and pension appeals. Popp’s areas of expertise are general litigation matters, worker’s compensation, personal injury, criminal, and employment litigation.
There are four other lawyers in their practice who can assist clients in these areas.
Gaylord is certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a worker’s compensation law attorney and is licensed to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC. He received his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and his J.D. degree from Seton Hall School of Law. Popp, is licensed to practice law in New Jersey since 1973, and has also been admitted to practice in Federal Courts by the Third Circuit, including the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Gaylord is a self-described “mutt of the New England coastline.” When his fiancé (now wife of 21 years) Amy asked if he could find a job that would allow her to continue working in Philadelphia, and be near her family in Villanova, he readily agreed.
At the time his parents were living in North Jersey, and he was living in Clifton attending law school. He focused his job search in the Mercer County area, first serving in 1994-95 as a judicial intern with the Honorable Charles A. Delehey. Since 1996 he has worked primarily in the area of workers’ compensation, beginning with Stark and Stark where he was made a partner in July 2003 before opening his own firm in January 2004.
Gaylord works with mostly injured individuals: People who have gotten hurt at work, or in a car accident, or after slipping and falling. The initial accident might lead to Social Security Disability or disability pension questions and concerns.
“Most come to us because people recommend us. That is the best compliment,” he said.
For the past 21 years, he and Amy have raised their three children in Ewing. They are also involved with the community. Gaylord currently volunteers with the Ewing Soccer program and the Ewing Democrats.
“I’m always involved in something,” he said. “It is difficult for me to say no. I’m grateful for everything I have and the things I can do that require me to give back. So that’s what I do.”
