Who says you can’t go home again? For Maya Mann, the round-trip ticket that took her from Ewing to New Orleans to North Jersey has led her back to where she began, although now she’s here to make sure you stay in good health.

Mann, a 2001 graduate of Ewing High School, has returned to her hometown to practice medicine. She’s the newest physician assistant at Ewing Medical Associates at 1539 Pennington Road.

Ewing Medical began more than 45 years ago as a small family doctor’s office that has blossomed into a practice specializing in internal family medicine. The practice always welcomes new patients and features physicians Dr. Eugene Ryfinski, M.D. and Dr. Paul Walker, D.O. under whom Mann will work, as well as Dr. Harsha Oza, M.D., and Qingdi Geng, M.D.

Though Mann was born in New York, she moved with her familyto Ewing at age 6 and attended Antheil Elementary, Fisher Middle School, and Ewing High School.

There she was a two-year member of the National Honor Society and was actively involved in softball, gospel choir, the French and Environmental Clubs, theater, and the multi-cultural organization Omnia.

Her mother, Kathy Jordan-McElroy, also taught at Ewing High. Her father is retired Trenton Municipal Court judge Lawson McElroy. Mann also is the granddaughter of the late Ruth McBride-Jordan, whose life story inspired the best-selling book “The Color of Water.”

She graduated cum laude from Xavier University in New Orleans in 2005, and then earned her master’s as a physician assistant from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Given her family background, it’s hardly a surprise that Mann chose the path she chose. Her family features nine medical professionals — five physicians, two registered nurses, a nurse practitioner, and mid-wife.

And besides that, it’s probably no surprise that Mann decided to return to her roots in Ewing “I couldn’t ask for a better situation,” she said. “My patients are my neighbors and friends.”
