Refreshed. Rejuvenated. Revitalized. This is how owner Carmela Padalino wants people to feel after a massage at Angel’s Touch, where licensed massage therapists help their clients relax and recharge.
In December 2010, Padalino became the newest owner of Angel’s Touch, located at 3800 Quakerbridge Road, which had been in business for over 10 years. One of the first things she did was put a sign up in front so more people would know where Angel’s Touch was located. Then she went to work on her commitment of helping people to unwind in a tranquil environment.
“Human-to-human touch is such an important tool,” Padalino said. “There are so many technological devices that individuals use now, and because of this, stress levels have increased dramatically. People are not spending as much time together communicating, and as we get older, and our kids grow up, and families move away, our need for human contact and physical touch becomes even more important.”
Padalino’s staff of part-time massage therapists have each successfully completed 500 hours of course work in a massage therapy program, and are New Jersey State Board Certified.
“All of our therapists are very professional, and they care very much about their clients,” Padalino said. “If a massage is scheduled for a full hour, a client gets an entire full hour. The session begins when the client is on the table and the therapist’s hands are on her or him. Sometimes clients need a few moments to just lie on the table and get their bearings before the therapists begin. This helps them to relax a bit before the session begins.”
Born in Italy, Padalino moved to Lawrenceville with her husband and two sons, Barry and Vincent. She feels that working in or close to the neighborhood where she lives is important.
“One of the reasons why I like that the business is so close to where I live is because I know a lot of the people, and I get a sense for the community,” Padalino said. “I know that everyone is busy working, taking care of their families or maybe they are caregivers for their parents. Women especially need to have a place to recharge since they are always doing for everyone. When they leave here, they are full of energy, and that makes me happy to see.”
Angel’s Touch offers several different types of massage, depending upon what customers are looking for. They may choose from a list of options, which include Swedish, back and neck, deep tissue, couples, pre-natal, facial, scalp and foot or hand scrub massages. Aromatherapy essential oils may be added to massages, and clients may also schedule a hot-stone therapy, Reiki or reflexology, which is the ancient art of Chinese pressure point massage.
Angel’s Touch welcomes walk-ins, but Padalino feels that it’s best for customers to make an appointment.
“When clients have a scheduled appointment, it works out better for them because they can schedule with a particular therapist who has worked with her or him before, and who knows hers or his body,” she said. “We have a lot of clients who come in because they have headaches, neck and back pain, or because they are athletes, and they have pain or tightness in their legs. The therapist will get to know the clients needs, and may even follow up with a phone call a week or two after a session to see how their client is feeling.”
Padalino believes massage is a holistic way to improve the immune system and reduce the susceptibility to disease, without the side affects that certain pills and medications may occasionally cause.
“Massage is an anti-depressant,” said Padalino. “Because of the benefits, the state of New Jersey is recognizing the importance of massage for the health of humans, and clients may receive a ‘doctor’s prescription’ for a massage, which saves the client the tax amount on the actual price of the session that they pay for here.”
Padalino also said Angel’s Touch never pressures anyone into a membership at the facility. If you buy a package, there is no expiration date.
“We want our clients to come here to reduce stress,” she said. “We don’t want to complicate things and give them more stress.”
