Staff members at Mane Street Salon say their clients mean as much to them as friends and family. Sandy Morgano, who owns the salon with Sandy Gagliardi, said the salon, located at 1450 Olden Ave. in Hamilton, offers these clients a full range of hair services, including cuts, styling and color.
“We specialize in color,” Morgano said, noting that the salon uses Framesi, an Italian hair dye that she said was among the best. They also offer Matrix hair color, she said.
The staff at Mane Street Salon is an experienced and highly qualified group, Morgano said. Morgano has worked as a hair technician for 30 years, and Gagliardi for 15. The staff also includes hair technicians Lindsay Jenkins and Katie Edinger and hair and nail technician Michelle Schemmer. Morgano said that staff members were trained at Mercer County Vocational School and attend shows each year to further their educations.
Another important factor, Morgano said, is how well staff members know one another and one anothers’ styling techniques. Morgano and Gagliardi have been working together for 15 years, and Schemmer has been with them for 11 of these years. Morgano said that new employees joining the group were trained in house to promote that familiarity. Morgano said it gives her confidence in the staff’s flexibility.
“We’re comfortable with any of our clients going in anybody’s chair,” she said.
Other services offered by the salon include makeup application, facial waxing, manicures and pedicures. The only service they do not provide is the application of artificial nails.
Morgano said the salon’s clients are a diverse group, including men, women and children. They often come for makeup and hairstyling services, such as updos, prior to weddings and proms.
They come from all over, Morgano said. “We get people that come from Pennsylvania, Princeton, Hopewell, Jackson,” she said, adding that she believes the salon’s location near interstate 295 is convenient and accessible for customers traveling from all directions. From the moment these customers walk in the door until the moment they leave, the salon’s staff seems eager to accommodate their needs and wishes. Morgano said that unlike some salons, Mane Street always includes blow drying and styling in the price of their haircuts.
“We don’t believe in sending someone out with wet hair,” she said, emphasizing that she thinks it is important to style each client’s hair so they are happy with the final result.
Haircuts for women, including wash, cut and styling, start at $33. Men’s haircuts are $18. Retail hair products from brands such as Paul Mitchell, Rusk and Matrix are available for purchase, and the salon is able to obtain additional products upon a customer’s request.
Morgano said the salon also holds monthly raffles to show appreciation for its customers. Each month, a name is drawn from a pool of that month’s clients. The winner receives a gift certificate and hair products worth $50.
The stylists had their own reason to celebrate this past March, when Mane Street Salon marked its 4th anniversary.
On a day-to-day basis, however, Morgano seems to find gratification in the satisfaction of the customers.
“We make people feel good about themselves,” she said. “So, it’s a very rewarding career.”
